History[]

Formation and The Eastern Silhouette (2008 - 2009)[]

Amyst formed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by Ukranian brothers Pavlo and Vasil Fenik. The brothers began chasing this dream in late 2008 when they created Amyst and began writing and recording music for their first EP "The Eastern Silhouette" by themselves. Over the next year they recruited Bob Ash and Karl Germanovich to fill out the band.

Chapters in Her Diary (2009 - 2011)[]

Since then Amyst has pursued this vision while writing and releasing "Chapters in Her Diary" EP less than a year after the first.

On January 27, 2011 the band released a cover of Taylor Swift's "Today Was A Fairytale"

On June 13, 2011 the band released their cover of Adele's "Rolling in the Deep".

Seeker and later songs (2011 - present)[]

Amyst looks forward to the rest of 2011 where they are releasing their 3rd EP titled “Seeker” in late summer and look to tour the United States sometime soon after.

On June 24, 2011 the band released their first single for their new EP Seeker, "We'll Play with Fire Ants Until Water Floods the Mound".

On January 1, 2012 the band released their first of many singles throughout 2012, "Feel Our Love".

On February 26, 2012 the band released a cover of Puff Daddy's "I'll Be Missing You"

On April 30, 2012 the band released a remix of their single "We'll Play with Fire Ants Until Water Floods the Mound".

On July 6, 2012 the band released a song called "When You're Ready To Go". The song is dance-pop, rather than post-hardcore.

On July 19, 2012 the band released a new music video for their single, "Fall Asleep Under the Sky".

On September 21, 2012 the band released another new single, "My Heart Is Where I Left You".

On November 22, 2012 the band released a cover of the classic Christmas song "Let It Snow".

Departure of the band members and future plans[]

On December 1, 2012 Bob announced on the band's Facebook page that he left Amyst.

In early 2013, the band announced that they are working on a new album.

On January 26, 2013, Pavlo and Vasil released Amyst's first acoustic song, "Without You Here".

On February 14, 2013 the band released a demo EP titled "Seeker demo". It includes demo songs recorded in 2011, and a demo song performed by Pavlo and Jesse under the name "Saving Kiera".

On May 10, 2013 the band announced that all members left Amyst except Pavlo and Vasil.

On July 1, 2014, the band released a new single, "Ooh La La", which is a cover of Cascada's "Everytime We Touch" and ATC's "Around the World".

On January 2, 2016, after being almost inactive for 3 years, Amyst released a cover of "Let It Go" from the movie Frozen, and stated that they're planning on making more music.

Musical Style[]

Until late 2010, Amyst was a post-hardcore band influenced by experimental and ambient music. Their two first EPs feature high-pitched vocals from Pavlo Fenik, complex lead guitar lines from Vasil, and very little screaming. Some early songs by the bands, such as "Sand Castles", feature three guitars, and synths are extremely rare in their early sound.

In late 2010, the band decided to change their musical style. Vasil abandoned his lead guitar duties to become the band's screamer. Amyst released two metalcore covers of pop songs in 2011, before writing and recording new songs for their 3rd EP. Since "Seeker", Amyst is an electronicore band. They're known for using more synths than other bands in their style. Their non-album singles are a step up to "Seeker", using synth as the lead instrument, rather than the guitar, which plays a rhythmic role. Amyst also make a frequent use of breakdowns in their new genre. Two of their songs, "When You're Ready To Go" and "Shine On Me Gurl" stray even further away from post-hardcore, showing an electropop style, and making no use of guitar and bass.
